Gorman's Fine Arts Gallery
Colleen
comes from a family reknown
worldwide for their artistic
abilities and accomplishments.
Carl Gorman and RC Gorman
are just two examples of
accomplished artists in
her family. In particular,
her lifelong teacher and
mentor, Harrison Begay,
also a reknown artist worldwide,
has been painting since
the early twentieth century.
Colleen herself, has
been drawing and painting
since she was four, when
Harrison first started teaching
her.
"As
an artist, I feel the need
to create something everyday.
If this need is not satisfied,
then depression sinks in.
As an artist, I use
the process of creation
to help me deal with &
counteract depression. In
a way, it's my conversation
with the Creator because
I see the act of Creating
as an act of Prayer. Since
the Creator sees & knows
all, brutal honesty is often
part of this process' so
if I am less than truthful
with myself, the only person
I am lying to is myself.
Thus it is the process
of creating that is more
important to me, rather
than the end product. Thus,
I believe this need to Create,
regardless of media,
defines an artist."
